What Is Lesbian Sex—and What Counts?
Lesbian sex is any consensual sexual activity between lesbians. It isn’t defined by one specific act, and it does not require a penis, penetration or an orgasm to “count.”
It may include:
-
Kissing and intimate touching
-
Mutual masturbation
-
Fingering or vaginal penetration
-
Oral sex
-
Vulva-to-vulva stimulation
-
Strap-ons, vibrators and other sex toys
-
Anal play
-
Role-play, BDSM or other consensual activities
There is no single “correct” way to have lesbian sex. Some women enjoy penetration; others don’t. What matters is that everyone involved freely consents, communicates their boundaries and feels safe and comfortable.
Sexual health still matters. Wash toys before and after use, use a fresh condom when sharing toys or switching between body parts, consider barriers for oral sex, and arrange regular STI testing when appropriate.
Ultimately, if the people involved consider an intimate, consensual experience to be sex, it counts. Lesbian sex is about shared pleasure and connection—not following a particular script.
